For Teens
Teens begin therapy for a wide variety of reasons. Because some teens can be resistant to starting therapy, we foster a collaborative relationship with teens to help them come up with their own goals tailored to their current struggles. HTFG focuses on specific treatment for depression, anxiety, self-injury and feelings of unworthiness and inadequacy. Developing healthy communication with the important people in their lives, and knowing when to reach out and ask for help, is also a key to the long-term effectiveness of therapy. Often parents/guardians will join in the last 10 minutes of a session, with the teen’s permission, to review general progress in therapy and tools from the session. The unique nature of confidentiality with teens and goals for treatment will be discussed in the initial evaluation session(s).
For Younger Girls
Research shows that girls’ self-esteem peaks at 9 years old. Due to this fact, we often see the beginning signs of anxiety and depression at this early age. Our goal with young girls is to teach them, along with their parents/guardians, tools to help cope with the struggles of girls in the digital age. We help young girls develop the tools they need in a warm, comfortable environment and teach parents the skills they need to continue to facilitate growth outside of therapy. Most often, we will combine family therapy and parent coaching with individual treatment to foster a long lasting change not only in the individual, but also in family relationships and functioning.
