I’m Lauren Saporito, LMFT, LPC, and I’m the owner of Houston Therapy for Girls. I have extensive experience working with women and girls ages 8 to 30 and their support systems.
Growing up I wanted nothing more than to study veterinary medicine at Texas A&M University. While I made it to A&M, in my sophomore year I deviated from that path, shifted to pursuing a Bachelor’s in Psychology, and went on to complete a Master’s in Counseling at St. Edward’s University. I now have fifteen years post-Master’s experience working with clients with a special focus on women and girls since 2012. (If you’d like to know a bit more about this journey, you can check out my blog about it here.)
Why the change? Quite simply, therapy and my relationship with my therapist in my teens and 20s made all the difference in my life. The conversations with my therapist offered me a safe place to explore how all the external chaos was impacting my internal world, in ways that both strengthened and challenged me, and what I wanted to do to outside of therapy to continue to move forward. The shift from sitting on the couch as a client to sitting on the other side as the therapist taught me how essential it is to find the right therapist—while going to therapy can be uncomfortable and awkward at times, we can’t grow when we don’t feel safe.
And why specialize in working women and girls? I did not anticipate focusing on working with women and girls when I first started graduate school, but it became the obvious choice to me once I started working as a school counselor at all-girls school after attending an all-girls school myself. There is unique power and importance in women lifting up other women, creating a supportive space where authenticity, healing, and personal growth can thrive.
During my free time, I enjoy spending time with my husband and my dog Luna, learning to speak Italian, and learning how to work cows with Wilson, my Quarter Horse (he’s the gorgeous guy at the top of the home page!).
